Severely damaged teeth? Endodontics helps us
When our patients present with severely damaged or infected teeth, we turn to endodontics.
This is a dental specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp and periradicular tissues.
Through precise procedures and the use of advanced technologies, it aims to save damaged teeth, thus promoting optimal oral health and contributing to the overall well-being of its patients.
In short, it is a discipline that deals with the inside of teeth: the word itself means inside (from the Greek “endo“) and tooth (“odonto“).

The most common endodontic procedures
Root Canal Therapy
To relieve pain and prevent further infection, we use root canal therapy. This procedure allows us to save a tooth whose pulp has been damaged by deep decay, trauma, or infection. During root canal therapy, we remove the damaged pulp, clean and disinfect the root canals. We then fill and seal the canals with a biocompatible material.
Apicoectomy
When an infection persists in the root apex area after root canal therapy, we perform an apicoectomy. This surgical procedure removes the apical portion of the root and seals the end of the root canal.
Root canal retreatment
In cases where a previously performed root canal treatment fails to resolve the infection, or where the tooth continues to cause discomfort, we consider root canal retreatment. This involves removing the previous filling material, recleaning the canals, and inserting a new filling.
The reasons for endodontics
We tell our patients every day that endodontics plays a crucial role in maintaining oral health and preventing tooth loss. By promptly identifying and treating infections and damage to the dental pulp, our endodontists can help save teeth that would otherwise have to be extracted.
Furthermore, there’s a crucial aspect that shouldn’t be underestimated: endodontic treatment can prevent the spread of an infection to other areas of the mouth or body. Ultimately, by maintaining their natural teeth, our patients can continue to chew and speak normally. It’s easy to see why: the whole person benefits from it in their daily lives, both physically and psychologically.
Advanced technologies and endodontics: more precision, more effectiveness
For us, staying at the forefront through the use of increasingly advanced digital tools is essential.
One of the fields most positively impacted by new technologies is endodontics: these technologies allow us to improve the precision and effectiveness of procedures, day after day.
For example? The use of operating microscopes provides us with a magnified and illuminated view of the operating field, allowing for more accurate cleaning and shaping of the canals.
Additionally, digital X-ray images and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) provide us with detailed images of the tooth structure and surrounding tissues, thus facilitating diagnosis and treatment planning.
